A Brief History of
Kenton County, Kentucky
Kenton County was formed in 1840 from Campbell
County.
Both the cities of Independence and Covington serve as the
county seat. The County Courthouse in Independence dates
back to 1840. The County Courthouse in Covington dates
back to 1843. The present County Courthouse in Covington
was completed in 1970.
